About Polk County

Polk County is centralized within the State of Florida, both from an east-west and north-south perspective. Interstate 4 traverses the County and provides direct access to the neighboring Tampa and Orlando markets. As of the 2010 Census, Polk County had a population of 602,095 people. Polk is bordered by Hillsborough County to the west and Osceola and Orange County to the east. Lake, Sumter, and Pasco County border Polk along its northern boundary and Highlands and Hardee County border Polk at its southern boundary. The county has become a strategic location for warehousing and distribution logistics within the State due to its proximity to both metro markets of Tampa and Orlando with primary access along Interstate 4 and S.R. 60. The City of Lakeland is the most populous City within Polk County and Winter Haven is the second. Although Lakeland and Winter Haven are the largest cities within the County, Bartow is the county seat and includes the county courthouse. Bartow is located less than 10 miles southeast of Lakeland and 10 miles southwest of Winter Haven along the S.R. 60 and U.S. Hwy 17 corridors.
